Persistence of Vision

Films & video

130 years of Hollywood in one continuous shot, every image sculpted from glowing dust in a projector's beam.

Claude Opus 5.5 (Claude Code)ElevenLabsWhisper

What each tool did

  • Claude Opus 5.5 (Claude Code): script, direction, and all code for picture, music and sound.
  • ElevenLabs: narration (voice: Bill).
  • Whisper: checked the narration.

How it was made

  1. Step 1: Narration first

Wrote the narration and recorded it with ElevenLabs. Its timing drives every cut and musical hit.

  2. Step 2: A particle renderer

Claude built a custom renderer of about 2 million glowing particles per frame, with a period film look for each era.

  3. Step 3: A team of agents

A team of Claude agents made the figures, sets, score and sound, and animated the film as one continuous take.

  4. Step 4: Frame-by-frame QA

QA agents polished it frame by frame, and the final render took about 9 minutes.

Perseverance

NASA’s Mars 2020 rover

  • It landed on 18 February 2021 on the floor of Jezero Crater, at a spot now called Octavia E. Butler Landing. That is where this base is set.
  • Jezero is where an ancient river met a lake and left a delta. Perseverance searches it for signs of ancient microbial life.
  • It carries seven science instruments and 23 cameras, more cameras than any interplanetary mission before it.

Ingenuity

NASA’s Mars helicopter

  • It rode to Mars strapped beneath Perseverance, and on 19 April 2021 it made the first powered flight on another planet.
  • Built for up to five test flights in 30 days, it flew 72 times over nearly three years: 128.8 minutes in the air, 17 km covered, and as high as 24 m.
  • It weighs 1.8 kg, and its rotors are 1.2 m across.
  • Its last flight was on 18 January 2024. Its rotor blades were damaged on landing, and that ended the mission.
